TT99 Car Insurance
Very few drivers could honestly say that they’ve never violated a traffic law of some description, either involuntarily or otherwise. Of course there are degrees of seriousness when it comes to offences. If caught, lesser offences may result in a verbal warning, a ticket or points on your license, whilst at the other end of the scale you could face a driving ban, heavy fine or even a prison sentence. There are approximately 32 million licence holders in the UK and the penalty point system recorded an astounding 2.4 million motoring offences throughout 2017.
TT99 Driving Conviction
Around 90% of individuals taken to court for motoring offences were eventually convicted – 48% of these motorists were convicted for speeding on a motorway.
TT99 Conviction
Abiding by the law keeps you, your fellow passengers and other users on the road as safe as possible. Being aware of the highway code and applicable driving laws is the first start in adhering to safe driving practices.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a TT99 conviction?
TT99 conviction also called a ‘totting-up ban’ is imposed when a motorist has been banned from driving due to an accumulation of 12 or more points on their driving license, within a period of three years. A TT99 conviction will remain on your driving license for four years (from the date of your last offence). However you’ll still need to declare a TT99 conviction to your insurers for five years from this date, and failing to do so may result in your insurance being invalidated. Drivers with TT99 convictions must have specific TT99 insurance as standard car insurance is not available to these individuals.
What different types of driving offences may lead to points being placed on your licence?
- Speeding – One of the most common driving offences on UK roads, this offence earns three penalty points on your license and a fine of £100.
- Use of mobile phone while driving – Using of mobile phones when behind the wheel (or whilst sitting in traffic) is an offence that could lead to a fine of around £200, and six on the spot penalty points placed on your licence. You could also be taken to court and be served with a driving ban or fine of up to £1000.
- Careless driving – Being convicted of careless driving could mean a fine of £100 and three instant penalty points on your licence. Major offences can see you sent to court facing a fine of up to £2,500, and / or a total driving ban. If carelessness leads to a fatal crash, prosecution could result in a driving ban, unlimited fine or prison time for five years.
- Drink driving – The penalty for drink driving is a possible driving ban, an unlimited fine and up to six months imprisonment. If you are involved in a fatal crash and you were deemed responsible, you could be imprisoned for 14 years with an unlimited fine and driving ban for at least two years.
- Driving without insurance – Driving without insurance is illegal and results in fines of up to £300 and six penalty points. The police also have the authority to seize an uninsured vehicle (this is applicable to any car without correct insurance, even if it is in someone else’s name).
- Driving following a ban – Driving while you have been banned is a serious offence that could result in your arrest on the spot and you being taken to court, whereby your ban could be extended along with a fine and potential prison sentence.
The punishments above may lead to a TT99 conviction and the need for specific TT99 insurance.
Finding insurance if you have 12 penalty points can be challenging and some insurers may refuse cover entirely.
What can Try Compare do for those with a Totting Up license ban?
As stated above, finding TT99 insurance can be difficult as insurers will class such drivers as higher risk, but the good news is that it’s not impossible. Try Compare specialise in providing quotes for driving convictions, including TT99. We work with multiple insurance providers to ensure that we can offer you the cheapest policies guaranteed. Premiums are usually higher for individuals with convictions but we will help you find affordable vehicle insurance.
What happens if I don’t disclose my convictions?
If you don’t disclose any convictions you have then your insurance policy will be cancelled and any claim would not be paid out. Convictions remain on the insurance database and driving without valid TT99 insurance is an offence in itself, which can further add to your predicament. Always make sure you are truthful and honest about all previous convictions when taking out TT99 insurance.
